Federal Fuel Charge Increase – Carbon Levy Impact
Effective April 1, 2024
This charge will increase to $4.10/GJ
The current price of $65 per tonne (of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) emissions) for heating fuels will increase on April 1, 2024 to $80 per tonne. These rates are prescribed by the Government of Canada on an increasing scale and are scheduled to increase to $95 per tonne in April 2025.
Natural Gas Utilities are required to charge these rates as per the federal Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act. All fees charged under this Act are remitted directly to Revenue Canada.
The new rate will be automatically applied to your bill for natural gas consumed beginning April 1, 2024.
